==(Repairing a Broken Sky)==

"Big soundscape"

date: July 30, 2008

Excellent chill song. Great retro feel with the synths and drums. You use the word several times in your comments, and RELAXING is definitely a good work for this track.

I love the way sounds come in and out and how it all blends so well. Awesome quality. Beautiful song!

There is a but, but it's a small but (not to be confused with my BIG, HAIRY BUTT). I'm sure you expected someone to comment on it -- a little long! It's not a terrible thing. I actually don't mind the length too much. It's just that sometimes when I feel like a music fix and I go to listen to a song, large track times can be daunting.

HOWEVER, if the song is listened to as it's supposed to be (start to finish, without distractions or interruptions), it's much more enjoyable. I think it would be great for some kind of montage or video game, or pretty much paired with anything visual because the song is so visual itself. Nice atmosphere.

Good job and happy birthday!

btw nice guitarwork lol

Author's Response:

Yeah I was prepared to get comments from people frightened and enraged by the sheer length of the track.

But if people can accept that without giving it a BIG, HAIRY BUTT as a rating, then I'm satisfied.

Thanks for the review!

"Professional sound."

submission: From Inside
date: July 29, 2008

Unfortunately, though, I feel it sounds a little bit generic. The song lacks a bit of an original sound. Good for radio, though.

Technically, it's all good. Every band member is doing his/her job well. It sounds very smooth (maybe a little too smooth).

The vocals blend a little too much. They don't quite stand out. If they were mixed just a little louder, I think it would come out more clear. I also think they might sound better if they were a little bit grittier.

Maybe you guys are too comfortable with your own song, too. I'm not really feeling a passion. It sounds a little bit like you guys are bored.

I understand this review probably feels very harsh -- I'm not shooting you down. The song is good; I'm just trying to offer constructive criticism.

Nice work.

Author's Response:

Thank you VERY much for the review, and I do not think you're shooting the song down. I appreciate constructive criticism and will definitely use your review as points to bring up when we remix the song. Again, thank you very much for taking the time to listen and review.

Rudy P - Entrapment (NG Mix)

"Woah."

date: July 21, 2008

Great stuff. I don't typically listen to any of the metal on NG because I'm not particularly of fan of the stuff, but I have to say - this is a good track.

Great guitar work. The sound quality is excellent, too. For the most part, the drums sounded very real considering they're programmed.

At some point I became somewhat bored, but I assume that's because I'm not that into metal. That said, I could really picture this as background music for a number of things.

Great work! You have my five.

July 21, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks man, much appreciated. I can see what you're saying with the boredom though... Wish I could pull off vocals, as that seems like something this song really needs in my mind.

Matresque (Through Smoke)

"Reminiscent"

date: June 18, 2008

I like the way it sounds, but immediately as I began listening to it, I was reminded of Rob D's 'Clubbed to Death.' I find it a little too similar for my liking (because that song is such a classic). I'm sure you've heard it before -- it was in The Matrix and it pretty popular in its time.

But besides that... Good work with your percussion! I really enjoyed the sound of it, but it could have been a little louder; perhaps made the main focus of the song. The strings were good, but I think they would have sounded better as a background to the drums and other percussive sounds.

I thought the little gap at 0:49 was a little too long, but that's not a big deal.

I could hear that you worked hard on it. Good job! Unfortunately, though, I'm still stuck on the similarity to Rob D's song, so that affects my view.

June 19, 2008

Author's Response:

I tossed this to a few people and they all said the percussion was too loud. I kinda agreed with them and toned it down. And yeah this is totally inspired by CCD which is probably why it sounds so similar. I tried to get away from the similarities but sticking to the same foundation was hard without making it sound similar.

So yeah. But the gap is kinda there for a reason. You'll see in the game LenZ is working on.

Rucklo - Chiptune Jingle Bells

"Awesome"

date: December 13, 2007

Some great stuff here. I usually HATE Christmas music, and I'm quite sick of hearing Jingle Bells, but I thoroughly enjoyed your rendition.

What you did with the melody alone is an amazing thing. Add to that the INCREDIBLE percussion (extremely creative, especially considering you kept it chiptune), great synths, and overall diversity of the track, you've got a winner.

December 14, 2007

Author's Response:

I'm glad it appealed to you, despite your dislike of christmas songs. :)
Thanx alot for the review mate! :)

(::The Water::)

"Very nice."

submission: (::The Water::)
date: December 2, 2007

Loved the way it sounded. Good use of instruments; it's not always easy to use multiple instruments that work well with each other.

I liked the spacey-synths, even if you got a little carried away with them. I also really enjoyed your drums. They weren't conventional, and they packed a punch.

The song, although good, doesn't really do much. Yeah, it's got a few transitions, but the motif is the same all the way through. In this way, I'd say it's really more useful for a background piece, but it's not the kind of song I'd listen to for the sake of just listening to. It doesn't really have any sort of slope, buildups, climax, etc.

Keep in mind, though, it would be GREAT as a background piece.

At around 1:36, when you leave the drums alone, the song sounds completely different - like it's becoming a hip hop song. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome beat, but it's not really coherent with the rest of the track.

Keep making music :)

Author's Response:

Thanks, and I do agree. But this is the kind of genre you listen to when you are asleep. =)

Atmospheric Entry

"Very very nice."

submission: Atmospheric Entry
date: August 2, 2007

I loved this. You create a really nice atmosphere, and I love the way the melody works with the bassline from 0:15 - 0:30.

Although it's extremely repetitive, I didn't get bored. I'm guessing that's because of the high level of quality and short length. I'd love to hear it as a full song, though.

Great effects and work on your sounds; it sounds awesome.

Love it :D

"LOVED it."

submission: Duels of Concept
date: June 13, 2007

Awesome song! Extremely unique.

I love your synths. They're very nostalgic. It's hard to use those older-sounding instruments well and effectively, but you seem to have done it.

I really enjoyed the overall sound of it. I can tell you put a lot of effort into it - there seems to be a lot going on; it's very complex.

Loved the breaks and changes you put in there.

I actually don't know what I could even suggest... I very much liked this piece, and I feel I should really check out some of your other music, which I'll get to.

GREAT job. You get a five, my friend :D

API - Fabricate

"Best loop I've heard :D"

submission: API - Fabricate
date: March 24, 2007

I've got to say, this sounds fucking awesome. Awesome beat, love the synth. Great sounds.

I've been listening to it over and over. That could be why it's such a good loop. It's like a really repetitive song that doesn't get old. Btw, nice job on the loop - can barely hear where it cuts, if at all.

I can imagine the song being continued, though. I hear similarities to some other music (like Prodigy).

You're right about it being hard to classify. I don't really see it as industrial though; it sounds more like techno or DnB to me.

Amazing shit.

Author's Response:

I had trouble classifiying it because it doesn't sound like either techno or drum 'n bass. Industrial sounded like my best bet. I was thinking miscellaneous, but I wante-

whatever, thanks for the review.

JotM

"Some nice sounds."

submission: JotM
date: March 18, 2007

To be honest, I really dislike Slayer. It just usually doesn't sound very good; it's too raw, especially without any effects.

If you're going to use Slayer, try to alter it as much as you can. If you really work at it, you can get some unique sounds with it (though you had some nice stuff going on with the alternating instruments and delay at points).

The same goes for your other instruments. Try to add effects to them to make them more distinct and different. You'll see that a world of possibility opens up with effects :)

Try to stay away from using the FL default drums, too. Especially if you're not going to alter them. There are some better FL drum samples, but you should really try to make some samples for yourself or find free ones on the net.

My favorite sound in this piece was the stringy pad that came in at the beginning. It has a very beautiful, soft feel to it.

Overall, not a bad piece at all, but with some touching up on effects, it could be awesome. I still think it kind of worked though, since it's a video game track.

You get a five for support :) Keep working at it. You've got good potential.

May 30, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks for the lengthy review! I dislike slayer a lot as well. I can't stand how hard it is to use, and it usually never comes out sounding very good either. However, in this song, there is no slayer whatsoever.

This is one of my first songs, and I have been working on it in small pieces over about 2-3 years. This is about the 2 year mark, but now that I've learned much more about effects, I have changed a few things, though many of the samples remain the same, as they're irreplaceable! :P

I really need to update the information. It's not so much a video game track, as it is a few pieces of the original song

Again, thanks for the lengthy review! :D
