Wow!

You really managed to recreate that retro feel. This is incredibly nostalgic. Visually, it was perfect. I loved the colors, and you always made the right choice.

I'm most pleased with the sound. Great music and sound effect. They are so authentic, which is where other retro games often go wrong. I love it!

Awesome job :D

Points for originality

I hate mouse maze games. The Portal sees tons of them every day, all of them horribly made MS Paint looking mazes with giant red dot endings.

You did something good, though. You managed to take the game and make it interesting. Nice work on the obstacles. You made a mouse maze game worth playing!

It is clear that you put effort into it. The overall presentation was good.

I think the game suffered from a lack of diversity of music. I didn't much like the song you chose, and it would have been nice to see (hear) a few more songs. Glad you chose from the AP, though :)

As well as more songs, I think you would have benefited from some way to mute the music (or go between tracks if you had had more than one).

You should have a button to go back to the main menu from the 'Level Passwords' screen.

One thing I would have liked as well (because I feel it would have added to the presentation) would be if you had created your own cursor rather than keeping it the default. It could be something simple; just a little something to keep the presentation consistent and maybe give a better idea about the mouse's boundaries (though I know it's all about the point of the mouse).

Nice job!

Thank you, that was a very thorough review, that helps alot when considering options for game 2.

Great game!

I really liked it. Great graphics, fun characters, smooth gameplay, good sound, and just a lot of fun! The overall presentation is quite nice. I think you've done an awesome job - I have no criticism.

Unique!

Very nice little toy you've made here. I really liked the style of drawing, and I loved the way it all came together. Good music!

Nice job! I really enjoyed it.

Very promising.

This has the potential to be an awesome game. It's quite fun, very addictive, and unique! Nice job. I liked the simplicity of it.

What you ABSOLUTELY need is some music. Get a good bouncing soundtrack (check out the Audio Portal! There's tons of good music if you look for it) and that will keep players entertained longer. If you REALLY wanted to go all out, you could make the game synchronize with the music, too. It's a pretty popular technique used in Flash games right now, and I think it would really work with your idea.

There's some room for improvement presentation-wise, too. You should use a less recognizable and more interesting in-game font than Times New Roman. There are lots of free fonts out there. Check out dafont.com. Also, maybe you could have some animation going on in the background instead of a plain black screen. Maybe themed levels?

That's pretty much all I've got to say. I liked it! Great gameplay. Just work on a few things and this could be a gem.

Amzipotatosheep responds:

Actually, I used quandrangle font. It might not be appearing correctly for you. I'll try a fix and update it.

Decent game.

HORRIBLE song, though. I know you just looked at whatever was on top of the AP charts at the time, but you have to know that scores in the AP don't mean everything.

The game itself was alright. Nothing spectacular. You could have used some in-game sound (besides that God-awful song), and some collision would have been nice (instead of just overlapping balls).

Worth passing, but barely. If you choose to touch up this game, the first thing I'd recommend is changing the music >_>

mooseisloose responds:

I liked the music, and some others seem too as well, although many find it annoying. Also I took a good 45 mins or so looking for suitable music but I couldn't find any! I was determined to use the AP though.

Decent.

The graphics/player animations were pretty good, and the idea was fine, but the controls lacked a bit.

When you jump you can't even swing, so how can you hit the higher balls? At first I could never make a homerun, but then I got the hang of it and it came easier. Unfortunately, sometimes it easier to hit the ball by simply holding the spacebar and standing still, which ruins the element of skill in the game.

The "HOMERUN!" announcement was kind of annoying, and the quality of sound wasn't very good.

You should have made it so that the music continues when you go from Training back to Menu. Also, you should have looped it so that when the song finishes, there isn't just silence. If not that, at least a Play/Stop button for music.

Overall a decent game, but nothing spectacular. There is lots of room for improvement.

P.S. I'd just like to mention that you used my song "in the meadow" without crediting me. I've sent you a PM, and I hope that you give me proper recognition soon :)

GazSmithGames responds:

Hey man, Real sorry about that, It's done. Id just like to say, As a responce to all reviews that this game was intended for a minigame. It took a total of 2days to make and i have seen so many worse games, You guys act like hell has risen, =(.

Awesome.

Great visuals - they really help create an atmosphere. The game was very playable; typical controls, but they work. Good stuff you've got here. Definitely front page material. Nice job getting it out in time for Halloween.

Well...

You obviously can animate, and you obviously can draw. In terms of a slideshow, it was too short. You should have taken the images from your drawings and made a film out of them rather than simply showcasing them. Right from the beginning I expected to see a neat movie - based solely on the atmospheric music and that little guy in the corner. Needless to say I was disappointed. I'm not blamming it, but I wish you had used more of your talent.

Nzxer responds:

I'm sorry to say. I really cant animate.

Work on your graphics.

It was not that bad, but I don't think it can survive looking like this. Put more time into looks and you might actually have something here. As it is, it just looks to bland and unprofessional. You've got something - just build on it and you'll be there.
